Trusted by travellers since 1993

Since 1993, we've been helping travellers swap the guidebook for the real thing – unforgettable adventures, legendary local stories, and the kind of experiences that stay with you long after you've left Scotland behind.

What started as one bold idea has grown into an award-winning collection of adventures enjoyed by travellers from around the world. Our reputation has been built by the people who've travelled with us and shared their experiences with friends, family and fellow explorers.

More than sightseeing

Sure, we'll take you to world-famous places like Glen Coe, Loch Ness and the Isle of Skye. But we believe the best memories come from the unexpected moments too.

A windswept viewpoint. A local recommendation. A spontaneous singalong on the bus. The stories you'll tell when you get home often aren't the ones you planned for.

Creating Tartan Hearts

We create tours filled with character, laughter and genuine connections. Our guides are storytellers, memory-makers and masters of bringing Scotland's past and present to life.

Expect epic scenery, fascinating history, questionable jokes, and plenty of opportunities to embrace your inner wild child.

What I enjoy most is are people - people make Scotland! Great stories & music is to be heard all while looking over stunning landscapes, whether it’s Edinburgh, the highlands or the Isle of Lewis & Harris. Scotland makes for a great office!

Laurie Laurie Highland Explorer Tour Guide

My favourite thing about this job is meeting people from all over the world and making new friends and getting to show off my beautiful wee country . I also love anything Harry Potter - experience the magic on my tour!🚂

Cliff Highland Explorer Tours Guide Cliff

I love showing Scotland off to people, especially the mountains, which I absolutely love. I'm a renowned Scottish landscape photographer and YouTuber, as well as a mountain leader and avid trekker. I enjoy getting into the Highlands whenever possible.

Connor Highland Explorer Tours Guide Connor

Half-Scottish, half-English, ALL Ginger. I still can’t believe I get paid to show people the most beautiful parts of this country I love. When I’m not telling stories on the road I’m telling stories in Edinburgh’s vibrant theatre scene. Eternally yapping.

Alistair Highland Explorer Tours Guide Alistair

Glaswegian tour guide and photographer - love getting out and about in glorious Scotland, seeing the wildlife and landscapes. Showing off our beautiful country to new visitors is always a joy, we are rather fortunate. Coastlines, mountains, sandy beaches and great food, we have it all here!

Graeme Highland Explorer Driver Guide Graeme

Driving lovely people to the most beautiful parts of my country and sharing a few stories (and maybe a bit of nonsense) along the way. It hardly feels like work when you love what you do 😃

The variety in this job is unreal! From the tour choices, to the people, you are pretty much guaranteed something new on every trip. But it’s the sights and locations that are the real biggies, from a stunning sunset over Oban to a dramatic, misty day on Skye.

As I start my 23rd season as a tour guide with Highland Explorer, I see myself as one of the most fortunate people in Scotland. Sharing the sites and stories from Shetland, to the Scottish Borders is a passion that grows deeper with every tour I have the pleasure in guiding, I hope to share our Scotland with you soon.

Tom Driver Guide Tom

Originally from the Lowlands and having grown up in the city, I never tire of getting out and seeing the Highlands! I have a real passion for sharing stories about Scottish history and the folklore of this country. You will usually find me either up a hill and enjoying the views, or at the bottom enjoying a whisky...it depends on the weather!

Stevie Driver Guide Steve

Since joining the team in 2019, I have been proud to be part of Highland Explorer! Every day and tour is a new adventure... I love being able to show off how beautiful and magnificent my home country is!

Louise Driver Guide Louise

After spending 6 years following the sun around the world, a dastardly virus brought me home to Bonnie Scotland. Now I'm behind the wheel, showing off some of the best wee spots we have to offer and I can say it rivals some of the wonders of the world. Lowland born, Highland heart.

Alison Driver Guide Alison

Born a Fifer but I'm a Highlander at heart. Being passionate about Scotland is one thing but sharing that passion with people only makes the heart grow fonder. From sampling our finest whisky, hearing about our troubled past to following trails to hidden gems, there's something to make everyone fall in love with Scotland.

Cara Cara Odonnell

A lowland lassie with a good mix of Celtic heritage and Irn Bru running through my veins. With spending summers in Ireland and the rest of the year exploring Scotland, the Highlands captured my heart. I love sharing the myths and legends of Scotland that I got told as a wee lass.

Passionate friendly Scotsman. Proud to show off this wee Country’s mesmerising landscapes and share tales of ancient folklore and fascinating history. Happiest by a loch or walking through one of Scotland’s majestic glens. Up a mountain, followed by a dram of whisky by the fire is my perfect way to end a day out in Scotland. What a regard is Paradise Bonnie Scotland.

Sonia Sonia Highland Explorer Tours Guide

I'm a Glasgow gal who escaped the big city and decided to invade the Highlands with my big bubbly personality and cheeky banter! Absolutely loving being a tour guide and getting to share Bonnie Scotland with the world! I have plenty to say and Scotland has plenty to show! It truly is a breathtaking place to visit. Living my best life either in the Tour Bus or in my campervan. Either way getting out and about spending time in nature.

Iain Ian Newww

My name is Iain and I am passionate about the Highlands and Scotland in general. For me, it's a love affair with the beauty of the landscape, the rich complexity of the history of the lands, over thousands of years, combined with a deep respect for the language, regional dialects and culture of Scotland. It's nice to be able to talk about it and hopefully be entertaining at the same time.

Amber Amber Driver Guide

A Moray born and raised girl, often found on a windswept hill or one of Scotland's incredible beaches. I'm thrilled that I get to adventure around the highlands all day as a guide. Can't wait for a busy summer of sharing the fun with lots of travellers!
